Ice Age Mammals Exhibit Receives Federal Support in Prince George

Member of Parliament Dick Harris announces funding for the Fraser-Fort George Museum Society

PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - March 12, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $15,000 in funding through the Museums Assistance Program to the Fraser-Fort George Museum Society. Funding will support the presentation of the Ice Age Mammals exhibition at the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre in Prince George. Dick Harris, Member of Parliament (Cariboo-Prince George), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Ice Age Mammals is a travelling, bilingual exhibition circulated by the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. It examines the human impact on climate change, species and extinction. Funding will contribute to the installation, promotion, dismantling and return of the exhibition, as well as to the development of school and public programs.

  • Ice Age Mammals opened on February 13 and will continue until June 14, 2015. It features dozens of Canadian specimens and casts; interpretive units and panels; large-scale visuals and a timescale; hands-on components; and photographs and audio-visual presentations.
  • The Fraser-Fort George Museum Society was established in 1958. In 2001, it expanded and rebranded by opening the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre. Focusing on discovery and inspiration, Exploration Place offers a variety of services, including children's programs.
  • The Museums Assistance Program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to our collective heritage.
