ICSA Labs Certifies Aventail EX-1500 as an Industry Leading SSL VPN Product

Second Round of ICSA Labs SSL VPN Certification Validates Aventail's Market Leadership as Only a Limited Number of Vendors Were Able to Meet Stringent Criteria

SEATTLE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 26, 2005 -- Aventail Corporation has achieved ICSA Labs Certification for its EX-1500 enterprise class SSL VPN appliance. This second round of ICSA Labs certification for the SSL VPN industry included tough new criteria in recognition of how the market requirements and the platform have expanded since the first round of testing in 2003. Aventail was instrumental in helping establish the criteria for both the initial round as well as this latest certification.

ICSA Labs, a division of Cybertrust, is an independent entity providing vendor-neutral testing and certification of security products.

"ICSA Labs certification is further validation of Aventail's technology leadership and focus on providing our customers and partners cutting-edge secure access solutions that vastly improve productivity, security, and control, while lowering overall costs," said Evan Kaplan, president and CEO, Aventail.

Some of the tough new criteria in this latest round of certification include cache cleaning, client-side integrity checking and stronger end point security features, and proper handling of services such as OWA, SMB and Microsoft Outlook. In addition, the ICSA Labs criteria outlines best practices for multi-factor authentication and other security technologies that works in conjunction with SSL VPNs.

"The SSL VPN vendors who have passed this latest round of certification truly stand out as leaders of the pack, as ICSA Labs has significantly raised the bar for SSL VPN technology and product development," said Brian Monkman, technology program manager, ICSA Labs. "We look forward to continuing to work with Aventail, and the other vendor consortium members, to further push the boundaries of secure application access technology."

The Aventail EX-1500 appliance is built on Aventail's proven SSL VPN Platform, which leads the industry in End Point Control, policy management, and transparent, easy-to-use access. It provides end users with secure communication to any resource within the network data center. The Aventail EX-1500 is a scalable, enterprise-class solution, integrating high availability and load balancing support, ensuring end users round the clock access to critical information.

Aventail's End Point Control technology ensures maximum security and control, eliminating inherent security threats by associating level of access with level of trust and preventing users from leaving confidential information behind.

The ICSA Labs SSL VPN Certification program is an independent and comprehensive process that rigorously tests, assesses, and validates SSL VPNs in a simulated, real-world, internet-worked environment on a continuous basis. ICSA Labs' testing criteria are publicly posted for review and comment by industry groups, industry experts and corporate end users. The SSL VPN testing criteria is developed with this input in conjunction with a consortium of SSL VPN product vendors.
