IEC Electronics' Newark, NY Operation Named One of IndustryWeek's Top 10 Best Plants for 2010

NEWARK, NY--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - IEC Electronics Corp. (NYSE Amex: IEC) announced today that its Newark, NY facility was chosen as one of IndustryWeek magazine's 2010 Top 10 Best Plants in North America. The IEC operation will be profiled with other Top 10 winners in the January issue of IndustryWeek Magazine.

"The external recognition by IndustryWeek is truly meaningful to us. Our team in Newark has worked very hard and embraced a great deal of change over the course of the last six years. They have effectively transformed IEC Electronics from a troubled company with few comparative advantages to a flourishing company with world class customers and bona fide differentiators in our target markets," said Don Doody, IEC Executive Vice President for Operations. "It's my pleasure to continue to work with our Newark team in the spirit of continuously improving our operations and we are honored to be acknowledged by IndustryWeek as a top plant winner this year."

The selection process involved a panel of IndustryWeek editors who reviewed each application, which included reports on management practices and plant performance in areas such as quality, customer and supplier relations, employee involvement, application of new technologies, productivity, cost reductions, manufacturing flexibility and responsiveness, inventory management, environmental and safety performance, new product development and overall market results. The Newark plant was selected as a Top 20 Best Plant finalist in September of 2010.

Selection of the IndustryWeek Top 10 honorees involved further evaluation by outside experts, review of additional information provided by the finalists and site visits to validate performance data and management practices reported in the applications.

"This award is a tribute to the IEC team in Newark, who are committed to the company -- and committed to our customers," added Doody. "I am very proud of and humbled by their work ethic, tenacity and consistent support of Lean and Six Sigma principles. I congratulate them all for this achievement. Our work is far from over, we can be much, much better than we are today -- and we'll continue to focus on making improvements, just as we have for the last six years."
