LONDON and BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - Sep 12, 2012) - The International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA) and Prometric have signed a multi-year contract to convert IFIA's current examination scheme, which forms part of the IFIA Inspector Certification Programme, from its paper-based format to a computer-based platform delivered through a global network of more than 4,000 Authorised Prometric Testing Centres. Computer-based delivery of the exam will be launched in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and across the Asia-Pacific region, from October 2012 onwards.
IFIA represents around 40 of the world's leading international testing, inspection and certification companies.
"IFIA members circle the globe and, with over 200,000 employees, are responsible for the inspection, testing and analysis of materials that fuel every major industry in the world," said Roger Brockway, IFIA's Director General. "The migration of our inspector certification examination, which is available to IFIA member and non-member companies alike, to Prometric's computer-based network gives us unprecedented flexibility in delivering the certification programme and contributes to the broader mission of IFIA."
IFIA member companies agree to uphold the highest standards of quality by:
- Applying appropriate technical and professional standards for all aspects of their work
- Implementing quality assurance programmes throughout their organisations
- Implementing appropriate methods of technical training and assessment
- Adhering to all applicable international safety conventions
- Adhering to all applicable IFIA Guidelines
"Producers and manufacturers throughout the world have the right quality and measure of essential resources because IFIA professionals are there to verify it," said Michael Brannick, President and CEO of Prometric. "We share IFIA's commitment to ensuring integrity and trust in the commodity inspection industry, and our reputation as the world's most trusted brand in certification test delivery is the right fit for IFIA."
Founded in 1982, the International Federation of Inspection Agencies, through its members, engages in a wide range of quality and quantity controls -- including testing, inspection and certification. All members of the trade federation uphold the IFIA Compliance Code, and member compliance is independently audited on an annual basis. IFIA is a non-governmental organisation in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. It is a partner in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Preshipment Inspection and steering committee member of the multi-stakeholder initiative: Business Principles for Countering Bribery.
