iGT Offers Advancements in Satcom Connectivity to Meet DoD and Intelligence Requirements for Increased Bandwidth and Throughput

iDX 3.2.3 Enables Adaptive TDMA for Greater Network Design Flexibility to Support High-Speed Communications on the Move

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwired - Jul 7, 2014) - iDirect Government Technologies, Inc. (iGT), a wholly owned subsidiary of VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), today announced the availability of iDX 3.2.3 software, which meets the military, intelligence and public safety communities' growing needs for increased bandwidth and higher throughputs.

iDX 3.2.3 features Adaptive Time Division Multiple Access (ATDMA), which improves return channel performance and increases network availability under rain fade and satellite link degradation. The software enables customers to design networks for a typical case scenario instead of worst-case scenario, saving time, costs and complexity without the loss of performance.

With ATDMA, customers can boost their network throughputs, increase network availability and reduce bandwidth and terminal costs or combine these benefits to support high-speed Communications on the Move (COTM) in maritime, terrestrial and airborne environments.

iDX 3.2.3 has been submitted for Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2-compliant remotes and line cards. Each multichannel demod line card is capable of supporting as many as eight inbound channels with transmission security (TRANSEC) and meets Wideband Global Satcom requirements.

Additional features include:

  • Waveform enhancements provide 5 percent to 15 percent bandwidth efficiency improvements (as much as 40 percent for binary phase shift key or BPSK)
  • "Superburst" enables as much as five times faster remote acquisition
  • Improved DVB-S2 carrier roll-off for as much as 13 percent in outbound bandwidth savings
  • Mission-critical applications connectivity and security
  • Specialized demodulators support high-speed COTM

"iGT's latest software release incorporates new features that greatly increase the availability and reliability of satellite communications in harsh and remote environments where military, intelligence and public safety agencies rely on consistent connections," said Karl Fuchs, iGT Vice President of Technology. "By maximizing availability and bandwidth savings with ATDMA on both the inbound and outbound carriers, agencies are better able to use airborne and COTM to meet their satcom connectivity needs whether for voice, video or data communications in the air, on the ground or at sea."
