Illinois Leads Great Lakes Region in Industrial Project Development, an Industrial Info News Alert

SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwire - February 28, 2011) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Of the six states in the Great Lakes region, Illinois is leading the way in industrial project development in 2011. Currently, 192 projects with a combined total investment value (TIV) of $14.9 billion are planned to kick off in the state this year. This includes capital and maintenance projects in 12 vertical industries, including Power Generation, Oil & Gas Terminals, Oil & Gas Transmission, Oil & Gas Production, Alternative Fuels, Petroleum Refining, Chemical Processing, Metals & Minerals, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing, and Pharmaceutical & Biotech.

While the Power Industry, with 52 projects with a combined TIV of $8.1 billion, leads the state in both number and value, the Alternative Fuels Industry comes second in terms of value, with 12 projects planned to kick off this year that are worth a combined $4.3 billion. Secure Energy Incorporated (St. Louis, Missouri) plans to begin construction on an $809 million coal gasification plant in Decatur this year. The facility will process 1.4 million tons per year of coal into 21 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

Renewable energy projects are also playing a large role in Illinois' industrial projects this year. Iberdrola Renewables' grassroot Deer Run Windfarm near Odell, Illinois, which has a TIV of more than $690 million, is planned to begin construction late in the year. The windfarm will have a generating capacity of 330 megawatts.

These projects and more are highlighted on the recently released Illinois Industrial Market 2011 Potential Capital & MRO Spending Wall Map, which is part of the Great Lakes Map Series from Industrial Info.
