Image Microsystems Wins Sustainability Leadership Award

Reverse Logistics Leader Wins Award for Proprietary Manufacturing Process That Diverts E-Waste Plastic From Landfills and Transforms It Into Durable Earth-Friendly Signage and Road Markers

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - October 4, 2010) -  Image Microsystems -- a leading provider of technology restoration, reverse logistics, e-waste recycling, and recycled plastic products manufacturing -- announced today they have won the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR) Sustainability Leadership Award. The company will be presented the honor in conjuction with the 13th Annual Texas Recycling & Sustainability Summit currently being held in San Antonio, Texas.

"We are thrilled and honored to receive this prestigious award," stated Alex Abadi, PhD, CEO of Image Microsystems. "STAR's nationwide efforts to help communities and businesses reduce, reuse, and recycle -- combined with their goal of sustaining the environment -- align perfectly with our core principals of sustainability, security, technical innovation, and community," continued Abadi.

Image Microsystems is committed to helping businesses and government agencies responsibly recycle their idled and end-of-life IT assets through a complete closed-loop process. As a result, the company continually receives an ever-growing amount of the raw e-waste plastic material used in the manufacture of patent-pending MicroStrate™ road marker and sign substrate products.

MicroStrate™ is a versatile material made completely of recycled e-waste plastic. Currently, most e-waste ends up in China or other developing countries where it is a large and growing problem. An important study released in early 2010 by the United Nations reports that the amount of e-waste could increase by as much as 500% over the coming decade. As the problem grows, more and more "fake" recyclers enter the picture. Ethical companies such as Image Microsystems have searched for efficient methods of recycling and uses for e-waste. MicroStrate™ is a result of those efforts. The proprietary technology developed by Image Microsystems allows dirty e-waste plastic to be turned into a useable material for signage, traffic markers, and other outdoor products. No other reverse logistics provider has this type of technology currently in use.

One positive aspect of the increased throughput of e-waste in Image Microsystems' facilities is that it allows the company to increase hiring -- including creating employment opportunities for deaf workers. Image Microsystems sponsors Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) students through their Career Technology Education Program. By employing both deaf and special needs students, the company provides paid internships -- giving each student exposure to the world of technology and environmental responsibility. After graduation from TSD, these students are qualified to apply for full time employment. As a result of this initiative, over 40% of Image Microsystems' workforce comes from the deaf and special needs community. You can learn more about this on the company's YouTube channel.
