Imgur Launches Imgur for iPhone, an Amazingly Simple Way to Browse and Discuss the Awesome Content on Imgur

Clutter-Free Mobile Experience Puts Imgur's Content Front and Center

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 5, 2015) - Imgur, the Internet's visual storytelling community, today launched Imgur for iPhone available on the App Store, an amazingly simple way to browse and discuss the awesome content shared on Imgur.

"Imgur is a place where you can discover an endless stream of funny, informative, fascinating, and unexpected visual stories that you won't find anywhere else on the web," said Alan Schaaf, Imgur's founder and CEO. "Imgurians increasingly live on their mobile devices, and we wanted to make it as easy as possible for them to browse and discuss Imgur's content wherever and whenever they want."

Imgur for iPhone focuses on doing one thing incredibly well: make it easy to browse and comment on Imgur's content. By just swiping left or right, Imgurians can explore the entire stream of posts shared on Imgur and view them sorted by popularity and most recent. The navigation and menus recede to the background to put the content front and center, while at the same time providing quick voting, favoriting, and commenting so Imgurians can participate in the community from their mobile devices.

"The images and comments shared by Imgurians are what make Imgur awesome," said Joseph Huang, Director of Mobile Product Design. "Our design philosophy was 'content, not clutter.' We designed a simple interface that gets out of the way and devotes as much screen real estate to the content as possible while making it easy to access menus and buttons when you need to."

Imgur for iPhone is the latest in a number of product announcements from Imgur: the company recently released Video to GIF, an easy way to make animated GIFs out of nearly any video, as well as providing Pro accounts to all users so they can share more high-quality content.

"We've provided a number of tools to help Imgurians create great content for Imgur. Now we're providing a great way to view that content on their most personal devices," said Schaaf. "While this release is purely focused on browsing and commenting, we'll be providing tools to create great content on mobile in the future."

Imgur also plans to release Imgur for other platforms in the near future, and will continue to add features as it receives feedback from the community. The company also announced that this release is just the beginning.

"Imgur is now a mobile-first company," said Schaaf. "We will be doing more -- a lot more -- in the coming months in mobile, and we can't wait to share what we've been cooking up."

Imgur for iPhone is available for free on the App Store.
