Immersive Technology Alliance Annual Meeting and Affiliated VR Mixer Offers Easy Access From GDC Event

Features VR Design Education, Industry Predictions, and Open Standards Discussion

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Feb 24, 2015) - Non-profit and non-proprietary, the Immersive Technology Alliance (ITA) is the voice and standards body for technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and stereoscopic 3D. The ITA will host its next annual meeting on March 4, 2015 at 9:00 AM PST at SF Green Space at EEFG in San Francisco, California -- close to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Moscone Center venue. This meeting is possible thanks to sponsorship from The Khronos Group and ImmersiON-VRelia. Refreshments will be served, come 10 minutes early!

"There will be something for everyone. The public portion of the meeting will include education, market insight, and access to some of the biggest future-thinkers our industry has to offer. The members-only portion will talk about exciting industry-building initiatives in development," said Neil Schneider, Executive Director of the ITA.

Scheduled speakers include: Ethan Schur, CMO of ImmersiON-VRelia; Alexander Chu, Samsung's Interaction Designer for Gear VR; Frank Vitz, Creative Director for the Frostbite team at DICE (at Electronic Arts); Neil Trevett, President of the Khronos Group and VP of Mobile Ecosystem for Nvidia; David Cole, Co-Founder of NextVR; Colin Shin, EVP of Siliconarts; Dr. Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie Research; Bertrand Nepveu, CEO of VRvana; Josh Farkas, CEO of Cubicle Ninjas and more.

As a guest speaker, Samsung's Alex Chu will deliver a 25-minute presentation on how space, environment, and perspective relate in VR, and how this interplay affected the design of Milk VR. This session will be non-technical in nature and could apply to various VR related disciplines and products.

"The ITA is a unique forum for diverse companies to identify collaborative opportunities to accelerate the mainstream adoption of virtual and augmented reality. Consumer-ready VR and AR will require many interoperating standards, and Khronos looks forward to working with the ITA to help make that vision a reality," said Neil Trevett, President, Khronos Group.

The Khronos Group is responsible for APIs such as OpenGL, WebGL, OpenCL, and more. The concept of "open standards" is too easily misunderstood, and Khronos President Neil Trevett will talk about the litmus test for helping determine when this ideology holds true, and how the alliance is working to honor this methodology in their working groups pertaining to standards and industry growth.

While the public portion of The ITA meeting is free and open to all, pre-registration is recommended, as space is limited. Especially reserved seats are available for qualified press; please reach out to our media contact below. Qualified content makers can join the alliance for free and participate in the full meeting provided signed agreements are received on time. Email membership@ita3D.com for more info.

The ITA is also proud to again sponsor the VR Mixer put on by SVVR and SFVR taking place on Thursday, March 5 from 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM at Temple SF in downtown San Francisco.

"We are delighted to be working with the ITA once again to provide a home for the VR industry during GDC," said Karl Krantz, Curator of Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR).
