Immigration Lawyer Says CRS Points at New Low

Vancouver Immigration Lawyer Says Numbers From Latest Express Entry Pool Marks a Significant Decrease in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Points Required for for Express Immigration

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - September 01, 2015) - Catherine Sas, an immigration lawyer out of Vancouver, says there’s some good news for qualified immigrants hoping to make Canada their new home. After analyzing the numbers from the fifteenth Express Entry Draw, which took place on August 21, 2015, Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued to applicants scoring 456 CRS points compared to the previous draw, which had a cutoff of 471.

“It looks good on paper, and offers a positive outlook for people who hope to one day call Canada their home, but the devil’s in the details when it comes to Citizenship and Immigration Canada,” says Sas.

Candidates eligible for Express Entry are required to submit a profile to the candidate pool, where they are assessed by the CRS. Top ranked candidates will be selected when the Government of Canada conducts a draw. If an Invitation to Apply is issued, the candidate then has 60 days to complete an online e-application, which the Government aims to process within 6 months.

“It’s vital to understand the Comprehensive Ranking System that distinguishes desirable candidates to maximize the chances of receiving an ITA and then successfully completing the application. For example, a qualifying job is worth 600 points, but it’s not the only consideration. Applicants without one have been issued ITAs in the latest draw -- and previously.”

In the latest round, a total of 1,523 ITAs for permanent residence were issued. More Canadian provinces are also introducing Express Entry streams as part of their provincial programs.

“This means there are more options and opportunities to explore with our clients,” says Sas.
