Impala Direct Ltd Travel Disrupted Due to Air Lingus Air Strikes!

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 9, 2011) - Managing Director Lourette Pretorius of Impala Direct spoke last night as the disappointment set in as her flights were cancelled to Paris due to Air Lingus strikes. The airline has cancelled 20 flights involving ten round trips to the UK and Europe because of the dispute.

Both cabin crew union and Aer Lingus management said they hoped the dispute could be resolved as they arrived at the talks this morning. The past two weeks have been in constant disruption and will have massive effects on Air Lingus profits as 10% of Aer Lingus flights have been cancelled, disrupting the travel plans of thousands of passengers. In addition the company has been spending a lot of money hiring planes and crew to operate its schedules.

2010 was a disappointing year for airlines internationally due to strikes, volcanic ash cloud and poor weather conditions. Ryanair stated recently 'a 'disappointing' €10m loss for the three months to the end of last year. We blamed disruption to services caused by poor weather and air traffic control disputes' The airline said its third quarter revenues grew 22% to €746m thanks to a 6% increase in passenger traffic and an average fare increase of 15%. It carried a total of 17 million passengers in the three month period.

Recent news stated 'World oil prices rose to nearly $100 a barrel today on fears that violent unrest in Egypt could disrupt the flow of oil through the Suez Canal on its way to the West' This is another factor to affect the airline industry. With travel such an important part of Impala Direct's business Lourette Pretorius worries of the ongoing effect of these factors.
