Important Improvements to Drinking Water Infrastructure Coming to Petit-Rocher

PETIT-ROCHER, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - April 4, 2016) - Infrastructure Canada

Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, along with Daniel Guitard, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Restigouche-Chaleur, on behalf of the Honourable Brian Kenny, Minister of the Environment and Local Governments, today announced more than $1 million in federal and provincial funding for drinking water system upgrades in Petit-Rocher. Luc Desjardins, Mayor of Petit-Rocher, also participated in the announcement.

The project involves replacing the community's drinking water tank with a new steel reservoir and adding a disinfection system. Once complete, this work will help ensure residents have access to an ample supply of high-quality drinking water for years to come.

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each contributing up to $532,713 to this project through the Small Communities Fund, representing two-thirds of the estimated $1,598,139 total project cost.

The $1-billion Small Communities Fund supports priority public infrastructure projects in communities across the country with less than 100,000 residents. The project announced today is among 43 others approved so far in New Brunswick for more than $59 million in joint funding under the program. These represent important investments in the green energy, drinking water, disaster mitigation and wastewater infrastructure needed to build stronger, more sustainable communities.
