Important Medicare Part D Guidelines for Fall 2006

WEST DES MOINES, IA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 9, 2006 -- Now is the time to think about your prescription coverage for 2007, say local pharmacists and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

"It's very important for patients to evaluate their current plan, including any changes that plan has made for 2007," says Angela Tice, Pharm.D., a pharmacist at the West Des Moines-based Iowa Heart Center. "If you're satisfied, then you don't need to do anything to re-enroll.

"If you would like to make changes, then those changes have to be made during the enrollment period from November 15-December 31."

Tice, who also serves as a professor of pharmacy at Drake University, recommends patients complete the Medicare Rx Enrollment Check-up, an easy-to-use tool that reviews costs and coverage options.

A review of Part D options is available at www.medicare.gov, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. Your individual Part D provider or local pharmacist should also be able to answer any questions you may have.

Tice adds that, if you do plan to change Part D coverage for 2007, to be sure and complete the enrollment forms by December 8. That way, you'll be able to get the prescriptions you need on January 1.
