Incident at Donnacona Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 7, 2016) - Correctional Service Canada

On October 6, 2016 at about 9:30 p.m., an incident took place at Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal institution. Two inmates involved in a physical altercation were injured. The incident required the intervention of correctional officers.

The wounded inmates were immediately assessed by staff and transported to an outside hospital for treatment.

No staff members or other inmates were injured during this incident.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is collaborating with the Sûreté du Québec who was called to the scene and is conducting an investigation.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, inmates and the public is CSC's priority. Correctional staff is trained in the handling of difficult situations to safely reach a timely resolution without injuries to staff or inmates.

CSC is actively involved in sharing ideas and practices with police, other agencies and partners to prevent these types of situations.
