Indeck Energy: Fewer Fines Means Higher Quality Wood Pellets

LADYSMITH, WI--(Marketwire - Apr 26, 2011) - Indeck Energy Premium Wood Pellets, manufactured by Indeck Ladysmith, LLC, contain about 80 percent less fines than required by the Pellet Fuels Institute, creating less dust and preventing potentially costly maintenance issues for consumers.

The Pellet Fuels Institute requires that fines in Premium Wood Pellet Fuel are measured at or below one half percent (0.5%) of a package's total content. Over the lifetime of production, Indeck Ladysmith has averaged less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%), well below the required specification.

"In order to produce the highest quality biofuel product for our customer, we dual-screen our wood pellets to remove the majority of fines," said Darren Winchester, Quality Manger, Indeck Ladysmith BioFuel Center. "Our pellets are screened prior to entering storage and again prior to packaging, ensuring that any fine material that has settled during storage is filtered out before the wood pellets reach consumers."

Excess fines and particulates can cause a headache for stove owners.

"We service about 400 wood pellet stoves each season," said Scott Freier of Freier's Electric and Heating, Inc. in Hudson, Wis. "Fines and dust can become compacted around a stove's auger, causing the system to bind and potentially costing the owner in repair fees."

In addition to potential complications with stove operation, excess fines and dust can be a nuisance when transporting pellets or pouring them from their packaging.

"Indeck Energy Premium Wood Pellets hold up to the stress of both packaging and transportation," said Winchester. "Our pellets are formulated to ensure proper density and durability -- holding together tightly when necessary and still burning cleanly and thoroughly."
