Indeck Energy Signs Pellet Fuels Institute Standards Program Pledge

LADYSMITH, WI--(Marketwire - April 5, 2011) -  Indeck Ladysmith, LLC, the manufacturer of Indeck Energy Premium Wood Pellets, has signed the Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) Standards Program Pledge, showing its intent to participate in the PFI North American Residential/Commercial Densified Fuel Standards Program.

The program comes at the request of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to have an enforceable industry standard for product quality and production oversight.

"We believe that Indeck Energy should remain a leader in the pellet fuels industry," said Mike Curci, Business Development Manager and Retail Sales Consultant, Indeck Energy. "In order to uphold our quality commitment to consumers, Indeck Energy has voiced our support and pledged our participation in the PFI's new standards program."

Indeck Energy Premium Wood Pellets already meet the physical specifications to be included in the program's highest quality classification, Premium.

"Indeck Energy has always produced wood pellets with higher heat content, lower moisture and lower ash," said Curci. "We will continue producing the same high-quality, hardwood-blend pellet as we move forward under the new standards program."

The new program will require that wood pellet manufacturers undergo third-party inspections, testing and sampling. Indeck Energy currently employs Twin Ports Testing, a Superior, Wis. testing firm specializing in biomass analysis, to ensure the consistent quality of its product.

The new standards program will also require:

  • Accreditation of third-party auditing agencies
  • Accreditation of third-party testing laboratories
  • Certification of manufacturing and production facilities

"Indeck Energy supports this project of the Pellet Fuels Institute and the Environmental Protection Agency," said Curci. "Providing residential consumers and commercial customers with the best possible product is our goal. The new standards program is good for Indeck Energy as well as the overall biomass industry."
