Indian and Northern Affairs Canada: Ministerial Statement

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 23, 2010) - The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians issued the following statement today:

"It is with great pleasure that I congratulate this year's recipients of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation Awards. These individuals are exceptional role models and are to be applauded for their outstanding achievements.

Your determination and hard work are inspiring and I would like to recognize you for your important contributions.

The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation Awards are a celebration of excellence within the Aboriginal community and highlight the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal people across Canada. The recipients have contributed to their communities, to Canada, and to the world. They are now joining this esteemed group of decorated individuals.

I would also like to commend the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation for its unwavering commitment to expand opportunities for Aboriginal people, especially for Aboriginal youth. The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation has encouraged and celebrated remarkable Aboriginal people for the past 18 years.

Our Government shares a common vision with the Foundation – a future in which First Nations, Inuit, Métis and northern communities are healthy, safe, self-sufficient and prosperous.

Again, my congratulations to the award recipients."

The Honourable John Duncan
Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development
and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians
