Bulk Electric Cyber Security Awareness Grows as Compliance Deadlines Approach

FOXBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - January 16, 2009) - In an effort to assist bulk electricity asset owners and operators with achieving their training and security awareness requirements for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance mandate, Industrial Defender, Inc., the global leader in Cyber Risk Protection™, today announced the availability of its NERC CIP Training Services Offering. Services offered as part of this initiative include a NERC CIP onsite Training Workshop as well as an online NERC CIP E-Learning course.

NERC is a not-for-profit corporation designed to ensure that the Bulk Electric System in North America is reliable, available and secure. NERC CIP standards have been mandated to ensure that all entities responsible for the reliability and availability of the Bulk Electric System in North America identify and protect Critical Cyber Assets that control or could impact the reliability and availability of the bulk electric system. NERC CIP mandates require that North American bulk electricity entities meet certain compliance requirements as of Q2 of 2009, with a directive of being auditably compliant by Q2 of 2010.

"In accordance with NERC CIP compliance mandates, ensuring that security standards are effectively met can be a considerable undertaking for bulk electricity owners and operators," said Brian M. Ahern, President and CEO, Industrial Defender. "In particular, the NERC CIP-004 Personnel and Training standard requires that personnel having authorized cyber or authorized unescorted physical access to Critical Cyber Assets -- including contractors and service vendors -- have an appropriate level of personnel risk assessment, training and security awareness. As part of our NERC CIP Training Services Program, we are pleased to offer flexible training options to bulk electricity organizations to allow them a cost-efficient, effective solution to meet their NERC CIP education needs and requirements."
