Industry Association Advances Life Producer Education on Life Settlements

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - March 19, 2008) - On April 16th, the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) will continue its pioneering series of Producer Seminars on life settlements in Philadelphia, PA. The 2008 LISA Producer Seminar is a highly anticipated event which brings together Producers to learn how life settlements can benefit their clients and increase their profits.

Dubbed as "the voice of the industry," LISA is taking a proactive step to answer a widespread market need for life settlement education. "Life producers and financial advisors must understand life settlements to properly represent their clients and fulfill their fiduciary duty," says Doug Head, LISA Executive Director. According to the 2008 Life Settlement Study, conducted by Agent Sales Journal, 65% of producers do not intend to perform a life settlement due to their lack of knowledge. "This is a serious issue that may backfire on producers seeking to properly and legally present the life settlement option to their clients," explains Mr. Head.

According to LISA's 2006 Data Collection Report, consumers who settled their policies in 2006 received an average of $304,000 above the cash surrender value of the same policies. Imagine the consequences of consumers discovering that the policy they surrendered last year could have paid them over four times more money than the surrender option offered by insurers. Yet, in many cases, the financial advisors never even inform consumers of the life settlement option. The LISA Producer Seminar will show producers how to avoid this type of situation from ever occurring, and how to bring their clients the full value of their life policies, while providing new income opportunities for producers.

Topics covered during the producer Seminar will include the life settlement process, policy evaluation, agent compliance, licensing, stranger originated life insurance (STOLI), taxation and the legal concept of fiduciary duty among many others. In addition, CIE (Continuing Insurance Education) credits are available for the states of Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York during (2) selected sessions of the program.
