Industry Collaboration for Indoor Positioning Solutions and Services


PISCATAWAY, NJ--(Marketwired - Mar 20, 2014) - Formally established August 2012, the In-Location Alliance (ILA) is an industry collaboration dedicated to promoting indoor positioning solutions that directly benefit the industry and users of indoor location services and solutions on mobile devices.

The ILA has successfully launched as an Alliance operating within the IEEE-ISTO Federation of member Alliances, and is executing plans for 2014 and beyond. After revisions to its Bylaws and governance, the ILA convened in San Jose, California on 12 March 2014 for its member plenary, where it renewed its leadership and can now announce the composition of its new Board, (http://www.in-location-alliance.com). 

Jouni Kämäräinen of Nokia, Chairman of the ILA Board and, Kirk Burroughs of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, Vice-Chair, are very pleased at the positive recognition received from a significant number of industry players. Many have demonstrated their interest by joining the In-Location Alliance, including Charter Members Broadcom Corporation, Cisco, CSR, Nokia, Qualcomm Technologies Incorporated, Samsung Electronics, Sony Mobile Communications, Telecom Italia S.p.A.

The ILA will continue to focus on indoor positioning and business opportunities with relevant products, solutions and services. The ILA's four main working groups -- System Architecture, Use Case, Pilot, and Promotion -- share the goal of accelerating the rollout of relevant technologies for indoor positioning businesses.

In the spirit of cooperation, the ILA is prepared to collaborate with relevant Standard Development Organizations (SDOs) in identifying new technical specifications and gaps in existing technical specifications.

2014 goals for the In-Location Alliance are to publish technical white papers, pilot results, and use cases, while collaborating with industry forums and SDOs and raising visibility at conferences and other industry events.
