Infinera Brings Efficiency to Metro CATV Networks

New ATN Platform to Be Featured at SCTE Expo Trade Show

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - October 27, 2009) - Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) will provide a live demonstration of its new ATN metro WDM edge platform and its interworking with Infinera's market-leading DTN platform at the 2009 SCTE Expo, the leading trade show for the cable television industry. The new ATN platform brings the benefits of Infinera's Digital Optical Networks architecture to the edge of the network, providing cable operators with a seamless end-to-end managed WDM solution. The DTN platform is well established as a class-leading digital transport solution for cable networks. With the introduction of the compact and flexible ATN, Infinera now provides an end-to-end solution for cable operators as well as traditional carriers. Infinera products are now carrying live traffic across all segments of the DWDM market.

The Infinera ATN live demonstration will be on display at Infinera's booth no. 15089 at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers 2009 SCTE Expo, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 28th in Denver.

The ATN is designed to offer seamless integration with an Infinera DTN network with a common network management system, enabling end-to-end service provisioning and service visibility. By eliminating back-to-back transponders at network interconnection points, an ATN/DTN network delivers savings in capital expenditures, while extending Infinera's well-known ease of operation to the metro edge. An ATN network, in combination with a DTN network can offer end-to-end integrated OTN bandwidth management for traffic transiting the network, leveraging Infinera's integrated digital bandwidth management. The ATN also provides a best-in-class, high-density platform for stand-alone metro C/DWDM applications, including video and broadband backhaul, commercial service extension and data center connectivity. The ease of operation and powerful management software provide robust network management options from the smallest to the largest networks, enabling operators to minimize network operational expenditures.

The Infinera ATN is a compact, metro optical transport platform delivering up to 40 DWDM or 8 CWDM wavelengths on a single fiber pair. Utilizing flexible Service Interface Modules (SIMs) with fully pluggable line-side and client-side interfaces, the ATN offers flexible configurations to simplify and accelerate network deployment. The ATN has been designed to offer best-in-class density and power consumption in a small form factor. It is designed to support all metro transport services, including Ethernet, SAN, SONET/SDH, OTN and video services.

Network Efficiency

Infinera's digital architecture has brought new efficiency to core optical networks: Infinera's Bandwidth Virtualization™ ensures that bandwidth resources in the core network can be allocated to carry any available service between any points on the network, thereby increasing network flexibility and utilization rates, and minimizing stranded bandwidth. By interconnecting ATN and DTN networks, the ATN extends these benefits to the metro edge.

Infinera has already won six customers for the new ATN platform, including one of the top five US cable operators. With networks in the US and overseas, Infinera's ATN customers represent a broad range of optical network operators, including cable operators, telecom carriers, and Internet content providers.

According to independent market analyst firm Ovum, worldwide revenue in the metro DWDM market in 2008 was $3.6 billion, with a forecast average annual growth rate of 13% over the next six years. The introduction of the ATN enables Infinera to address the full metro market. "Infinera's ATN metro platform effectively doubles Infinera's addressable market while also strengthening its value proposition," said Ovum Vice-President for Network Infrastructure Dana Cooperson. "In-house development of the platform promises capital and expense efficiencies from tight coupling of the ATN and DTN in critical areas like service and network management and physical interworking, but the platform stands on its own as well."

"Infinera solutions provide the simplicity, efficiency speed, and scalability to help cable providers offer the triple-play and other services their customers demand today," said Infinera CEO Jagdeep Singh. "The ATN extends the benefits of Infinera's Digital Optical Networks deeper into their metro networks. We're very happy to provide our newest platform, the ATN, to make an end-to-end, tightly integrated Infinera network a reality."

Infinera at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

Infinera will be hosting customers and other visitors at our booth at the SCTE Expo, Booth no. 15089, at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, from Wednesday Oct. 28th through Friday Oct. 30th. At the SCTE Expo, we will feature a live demonstration of ATN/DTN interworking, showing the ease of use and power of end-to-end circuit provisioning with an Infinera network. Infinera sales and technical experts will be available to provide updates on Infinera solutions for end-to-end CATV networks and middle-mile broadband stimulus networks, as well as Infinera's world-leading photonic integration technology.
