Infonavit Selects Nortel for Unified Communications Solution

Network to Streamline Communications and Operations, Boost Employee Productivity

SUNRISE, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - March 31, 2009) - The National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit), a government mortgage provider with offices throughout Mexico, has streamlined communications and is offering new employee collaboration tools based on a unified communications network deployed by the Innovative Communications Alliance (ICA), a partnership between Nortel(1) (TSX:NT)(OTCBB:NRTLQ) and Microsoft. It is estimated that the new systems will add approximately 30 minutes of additional productivity per day to Infonavit employees.

Infonavit(2) faced many challenges with their previous Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phone system which was outdated and provided limited functionality, thus requiring a complex administration.

The new communications system from Nortel and based on Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2(R) and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007(R) allows Infonavit employees to reach colleagues faster, enables new audio and video conferencing and provides better on-line collaboration tools, while integrating to Infonavit's existing IT environment seamlessly.

"By integrating voice, messenger, webconference and video capabilities onto the desktop, our employees are able to provide comprehensive critical services to our citizens faster, more simply and more efficiently," said Marco Antonio Espinosa Vera, telecommunications and network manager for Infonavit. "The Nortel and Microsoft ICA unified communications solution allowed us to use our existing IT network investment while making it more efficient - helping us save capital while reducing our operational expenses. This is especially important for a government agency responsible for public funds."

"The unified communications solution we are deploying for Infonavit is transformational in every aspect. It has transformed the way employees communicate to make them more responsive and it has enabled a much more efficient network. Infonavit has to serve many people across Mexico and their services are of critical importance - so they have to be available at all times and need to be able to provide the right information in real-time," said Alejandro Bourg, director, solutions sales, Nortel. "This is the power of unified communications."

"Our goal is to provide a powerful communication platform that helps companies operate effectively and with great efficiency, automate processes and work with fewer resources," said Jose Ramon Diaz Vegas, Unified Communications product manager for Microsoft Latin America. "Nortel's technology provides significant added value for the communications of the companies."

Ramon Zarazua, business development director, EVOX(2), Nortel's local partner in charge of the implementation and support for the Infonavit project mentioned, "This is one of the applications that EVOX specializes in to help institutions such as Infonavit to increase productivity and reduce fixed expenses with qualified personnel and national and international service coverage; as well as tools that help accomplish and measure SLA'S (service level agreements)."

By utilizing an ICA unified communications solution, Infonavit looks forward to saving employees up to 30 minutes daily, which is equivalent to issuing 30,000 more loans annually while maintaining its current number of employees. Infonavit expects the project to pay for itself within 13 months.

The solution includes the Nortel Communication Server 1000 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007(2). It also Nortel's Secure Router 4134, Contact Center solution, and Application Gateways.

The ICA is delivering new solutions that empower customers, such as Infonavit, to realize the productivity potential of their organization by communications-enabling their business processes.
