Infonetics: Enterprise router market improves in 3Q14; Cloud, economic expansion to drive growth in 2015

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - December 09, 2014) - Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 3rd quarter 2014 (3Q14) Enterprise Routers report, which tracks high-end, mid-range, branch office, and low-end/SOHO router revenue and ports.

ANALYST NOTE
"After a very weak second quarter, we saw improvements in enterprise router shipments in the third quarter of 2014. Revenue growth is still hampered due to lower selling prices and a shift toward low-end equipment. Driving the market forward is a resurging economy in the U.S. and the shift toward cloud architectures, which will put new pressure on the WAN and require companies to make investments," notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research.

3Q14 ENTERPRISE ROUTER MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The global enterprise router market grew 8% in 3Q14 from 2Q14, to $934 million, but is down 3% from the year-ago 3rd quarter
  • Enterprise router unit shipments fared better in 3Q14, increasing 10% sequentially and 6% year-over-year
  • High- and low-end routers turned in the strongest performances in 3Q14, while mid-range and branch office router revenue fell by more than 10% year-over-year
  • Cisco, Brocade, and HP (in rank order) are the top 3 vendors in the enterprise routing market
  • Infonetics expects enterprise router revenue growth to resume in 2015, due to the rise of cloud services and architectures and economic expansion
