Infonetics Research: IMS equipment market thriving; revenue up 108% in 2Q09, led by Ericsson, Huawei

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - August 24, 2009) - Communications market research firm Infonetics Research released its second quarter (2Q09) IMS Equipment and Subscribers report, which tracks mobile and fixed-line core IMS subscribers, IMS core equipment (home subscriber servers [HSS], call session control function [CSCF] servers, media resource function [MRF]), and IMS voice application servers (VAS).

"While the market for service provider VoIP equipment has dramatically slowed over the past year, the IMS equipment market is thriving, led by continued adoption of VoIP services around the world and by service providers migrating their VoIP networks to IMS. While the IMS equipment market is small at this point, 2Q09 was an incredibly strong quarter that bodes well for the rest of the year. We are expecting explosive growth in the IMS market in 2009," says Diane Myers, Infonetics Research's Directing Analyst for Service Provider VoIP and IMS.

IMS EQUIPMENT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

-- Worldwide sales of IMS equipment jumped 108% between 1Q09 and 2Q09, to

deployments, Huawei, Nokia Siemens, and Alcatel-Lucent are providing
    serious competition
-- Fixed-line VoIP remains the primary application deployed over IMS, with
high levels of adoption in EMEA
-- Mobility leads the way for future applications enabled by IMS networks
