Infonetics Research: Reports of NAC's death have been greatly exaggerated; market up 16% in 1Q08

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2008) - Communications market research firm Infonetics Research reported today that the network access control (NAC) enforcement appliance market jumped 16% sequentially in the first quarter of 2008, hitting $62.7 million.

According to Infonetics' report, NAC Enforcement Appliances, the market will continue to see strong annual growth over the next 5 years.

"While many have been pronouncing NAC dead, we approached this market in a realistic way from the beginning, so recent events, including the faltering US economy and the disappearance of some early NAC vendors, haven't forced us to make major changes in our forecasts. While many vendors reported sluggish first quarter results, they're reporting strong preliminary second quarter results, great pipelines, and decreasing sales cycles for the rest of the year," said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for network security at Infonetics Research.

Other highlights from the report:

-- In-line NAC appliance revenue and out-of-band NAC appliance revenue
now account for almost equal portions of the total NAC enforcement
    appliance market in 1Q08
-- Ethernet switch-based NAC products make up a small but fast growing
    portion of the market
-- North America accounted for over half of all NAC enforcement appliance
    revenue in 1Q08

Infonetics' report provides worldwide and regional market size and forecasts through 2011 for revenue and unit shipments of out-of-band, in-line, and Ethernet switch NAC enforcement appliances in North America, Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA), Asia Pacific, Caribbean/Latin America (CALA), and worldwide. The report includes top player analysis, fundamental drivers of the market, changes that affect market growth, and more.
