InfoPrint Solutions Company Announces BookFlow at GraphExpo 2007

Integrated End-to-End Solution Helps Customers Maximize Production of Print-on-Demand Books

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - September 9, 2007) - GraphExpo, Booth #2276 - InfoPrint Solutions Company, a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh, today launches InfoPrint BookFlow at GraphExpo 2007. This integrated, end-to-end book production software has been developed by InfoPrint and its partners to maximize the productivity of print-on-demand books and create extra efficiencies in the printing process.

BookFlow ensures all parts of the production workflow process run smoothly by linking to InfoPrint's recognized print management technology and PDF workflow solutions -- InfoPrint Manager (IPM) and InfoPrint ProcessDirector (IPPD). IPM and IPPD help manage the print job from order entry and management through the complete printing process. BookFlow also brings together components developed by InfoPrint's industry partners, such as US-based IoFlex and Ultimate Technologies, a Montreal-based developer. New partners and solution components will continue to be added as the initiative develops over time.

Current technology key partners, Ultimate and IoFlex, have developed software as part of the BookFlow offering. Ultimate's Imostrip OnDemand provides low cost, intuitive, automated imposition for complex signatures. Ultimate's Book-Stacker supports the automated production of single copies of books on the continuous-feed InfoPrint 4100. IoFlex offers advanced scanning and image optimization for books, through Adobe Acrobat based plug-ins and automated image processing. IoFlex allows InfoPrint customers to benefit from both detail manual tools and fully automated image workflows.

BookFlow helps publishers avoid inventory obsolescence, assists printers in dramatically reducing production costs, and satisfies requests for on-demand printing to open up new markets and business opportunities. A prime example is BookFlow's ability to perform smaller print runs for up and coming authors, who would not require a large print job.

InfoPrint also offers market leading service & maintenance for BookFlow partners alongside industry-leading output solutions expertise and product implementation, so that BookFlow is a truly complete end-to-end solution to manage jobs, boost productivity and automate operations.

"Using innovative technology, integrated processes and best in class partners, BookFlow delivers a cost effective solution that provides the reliability and quality that book production demands, and provides our customers with a sustainable advantage in an increasingly competitive market," said George Promis, VP, Color Solutions and Technology Alliances at InfoPrint Solutions Company. "With a re-focused ambition to expand in the digital book marketplace, InfoPrint is simplifying digital book production with BookFlow, by providing better print quality, faster print speeds at overall lower total cost."

Direct integration with high end InfoPrint continuous forms machines

InfoPrint BookFlow integrates directly with the InfoPrint® 4100 Advanced Function Printing (AFP™) System, a next-generation digital publishing and production output solution. This continuous forms printer can produce the high image and text quality traditionally available only from cutsheet solutions and prints on a wide range of paper. It also features the highest speeds currently available for electrophotographic printers, meaning print shops can realize efficiencies through the right balance of print quality, speed, and throughput.

Book printers can use the InfoPrint 4100 to help reduce the costs of printing short run books or technical manuals, and boasting one of the highest levels of image and text quality currently available at this speed in continuous forms printing, the InfoPrint 4100's hardware enhancements include technological advancements in printhead, developer and fusing mechanisms, along with an integrated optical density feedback system for sharp, clear images and text. Software enhancements include an innovative 256-level grayscale simulation of color objects using InfoPrint Solutions Company patented technologies, and when using InfoPrint's Adobe based RIP, customized, selectable halftones.

InfoPrint's Workflow Portfolio integrates with key partner solutions to make BookFlow

BookFlow integrates into InfoPrint's workflow operations, with solutions in development with partners, such as Ultimate and IoFlex.

IPM software aids in managing transaction, distributed, and POD (print-on-demand) printing. It also enables more efficient enterprise print management with lower overall costs, better utilization of existing assets and full accounting of printer resources. Ranging from small to very large, multisite transaction output operations, IPM is also very scalable. Working alongside it in BookFlow is IPPD software -- a configurable output process management system based on a Linux® platform -- which allows print houses to re-engineer transaction output processes by adding new components and functionality as output needs evolve. The third component is InfoPrint Workflow (IPW), an end-to-end, customized consulting engagement and workflow management and control solution allowing automated enterprise document production.
