Infor Gives Students the Competitive Edge With ERP in the Classroom

Farmingdale State College Prepares the Next Generation of Manufacturing Executives Using Infor10 ERP Express (VISUAL)

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Jan 26, 2012) - Infor, a leading provider of business application software serving more than 70,000 customers, today announced that ERP Software donated to Farmingdale State College has helped prepare students for careers in the manufacturing industry. Early exposure to enterprise resource planning in a classroom setting equips undergraduates with tools and skills often gained only after joining the workforce, ultimately providing Farmingdale State students with a competitive edge over job-seeking peers. Synergy Resources, an Infor channel partner, helped facilitate the donation of software to the college and coordinate its use in the classroom.

"Manufacturers depend on ERP systems to provide visibility into processes and keep operations running efficiently," said Mark Humphlett, director of ERP Marketing, Infor. "Infor donated Infor10 ERP Express (VISUAL) to Farmingdale State because it's important that students joining the workforce not only become familiar with ERP early on, but recognize its importance to their industry in order to achieve success in today's manufacturing world."

The introductory ERP course taught at Farmingdale State College covers everything from how to process a received shipment to evaluating forecasts and creating work orders. Former students have now matriculated and obtained positions with leading manufacturers such as Arkwin Industries and CPI Aerostructures, as well as manufacturing technology providers like Synergy Resources.

"Students are bringing greater preparation, knowledge and skill when they enter the workforce because of the access they have had to Infor ERP in the classroom, making them more attractive job candidates to potential employers," said Jill O'Sullivan, assistant professor, Farmingdale State College. "These students are also achieving greater levels of job success than their peers because they require less training and are able to immediately begin using the real world applications in place at their new jobs."

Interviews with managers of former Farmingdale State College students reveal that hiring an employee already familiar with ERP concepts and how to use such a system both significantly reduces training time and enables the user to become a productive resource within the company at a much faster rate.

"We recently hired a new graduate from Farmingdale State who is already slated for a higher position in planning because his utilization of our ERP enables the company to better understand what is needed and what is missing," said Dee Suraci, production control manager, CPI Aerostructures. "He is a success story right out of the classroom and has added tremendously to our staff."

When surveyed, supervisors indicated that students who received ERP training at Farmingdale State required significantly less instruction and worked independently after only a few days, demonstrating that the course is an effective stepping stone for entering the manufacturing workforce, as well as an accelerant for offering value in a new post-graduate career.
