Informa Launches Cargo Logistics America and Welcomes Show Director, Editor

Peter Hurme brings significant expertise in U.S. cargo logistics events, business media

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 29, 2014) - Informa Exhibitions, a division of Informa, the largest publicly-owned event organizer in the world, is pleased to announce that Peter Hurme, a well-known producer of U.S. cargo logistics events and business media, has joined the Cargo Logistics America team for the launch of the inaugural American edition of the Cargo Logistics Expo & Conference.

Hurme will be show director and editor of Cargo Logistics America, a major supply-chain expo debuting December 2-3, 2015 at the San Diego Convention Center. Cargo Logistics America will build on the success of Cargo Logistics Canada, which drew 2476 attendees and more than 150 exhibits earlier this year in Vancouver, BC.

"We are excited to take the Cargo Logistics brand into the American market with Mr. Hurme's knowledge and expertise. We intend to assemble the largest and most diverse gathering of stakeholders in US supply chains - all under one roof. Similar to our Canadian event, what sets this event apart is the multimodal scope - it's designed to act as a hub for the people, products services, and technologies that will help beneficial cargo owners optimize their air, sea, rail, and road cargo logistics, for any cargo type," said David Tyldesley, Informa Show Director.

Hurme, a native of Seattle, Wash. has more than 20 years' experience as a publisher, editor, reporter, and event organizer. For the past 15 years, he has become well known to Cargo Business News (CBN) readers and event attendees as senior editor/publisher of the CBN media enterprise and leader of a successful conference business that focused on trade with China, port productivity, and the U.S. regional freight supply chain, among other trade and logistics themes.

"My goal as Cargo Logistics America show director and editor, and that of the exceptional team I'll be working with, is to further establish the expanding Cargo Logistics America brand as the ultimate go-to expo of its kind in the U.S. and beyond," said Hurme. "I love our tagline: 'the entire supply chain under one roof.' There is clearly a vacuum for an all-encompassing showcase like this in the shipping and logistics space in America - a place where all supply chains, and cargo professionals, can assemble in one place. I can't think of a better market-leading show organizer to produce it than Informa," he said.

"We're pleased to be a founding sponsor of such an important, major event like Cargo Logistics America," said Eric Olafson, Manager, Intergovernmental Affairs/Cargo Development, Port Miami.

"Port Miami is a nexus of many different cargo types, supply chains, and transportation modes, so the CLA expo and conference is a good fit for us," he said.

The Cargo Logistics America brand joins Informa's global portfolio of cargo, shipping, and transportation events and publications. Informa is a global organization with 150 offices in 40 countries. The exhibition business has the unique claim to fame of having operated shows since 1880. Its bloodline dates back to 1734, when the first issue of the maritime publication, Lloyd's List, was produced. Today, Lloyd's List is the world's oldest newspaper and an important resource for the global shipping community. Will Morris, CEO Informa Global Exhibitions added, "We are delighted to be expanding our global event footprint to include the Cargo Logistics America Expo & Conference. The successful launch of the Cargo Logistics brand in Canada and the subsequent US edition complements our renowned portfolio of cargo-related events which include Intermodal Expo and Terminal Operations Conference, not to mention Lloyd's List and Containerisation (CI) publications."
