OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 23, 2013) - Health Canada is informing consumers that a number of unauthorized products available for sale in Canada are being voluntarily recalled due to a possible contamination with chloramphenicol. Chloramphenicol, an antibiotic, may pose serious health risks to consumers as it's associated with a rare risk of aplastic anemia, a serious blood disorder that can be fatal. This reaction is unpredictable and not related to a specific dose of chloramphenicol.
If you have used any of the recalled products identified below and are concerned about their impact on your health, please consult your healthcare practitioner. Canadians can monitor the table on the Healthy Canadians Web site for additions to the list of products potentially contaminated with chloramphenicol.
