Information Update: Contaminated Unauthorized Natural Health Product (MaxHIMize)

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 18, 2013) - Health Canada testing of an unauthorized natural health product, MaxHIMize, found it to contain bacteria (Enterococcus durans and Bacillus spp) and undeclared caffeine that could present a risk to health. MaxHIMize is being promoted as a dietary supplement and for erectile dysfunction.

The Enterococcus durans bacteria in this product can cause problems for consumers whose immune systems are compromised (known as immunocompromised) or who have serious underlying diseases. These people may develop severe infections as a result of bacteria in their blood.

The testing followed a complaint made to Health Canada about an advertisement suggesting the product could be obtained at the following web address: It is important to note that there may be other websites and advertisements promoting MaxHIMize.

Canadians who have used MaxHIMize and are concerned about their health should consult with a healthcare practitioner.
