InsideSales.com Launches Initiative to Support Women in Computer Science

Female-Focused Campaign to Include Scholarships for Computer Science Majors at Utah-Based Universities BYU, UVU, and U of U

SILICON SLOPES, UT--(Marketwired - Apr 22, 2015) - InsideSales.com, the leading cloud-based sales acceleration technology company, today announced an initiative designed to promote and encourage women in computer science. InsideSales.com will donate time, money and/or efforts to outreach programs including SheTech Explorer, Lego League, UVU Prep and Code.org to sponsor women in STEM organizations and events. The backbone of the campaign, a new InsideSales.com Scholarship for Computer Science, will cover full tuition for one year for computer science students in three of Utah's largest universities, with preference going to female students. One-year scholarships will be awarded to students at Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University and University of Utah. The scholarships will be offered to enrolled students for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.

The scholarship for computer science was unveiled at the company's annual customer conference, IS Accelerate, by InsideSales.com's CEO, Dave Elkington. SVP of international strategy, Lindsey Armstrong, hosted a panel discussion on women in technology with Betsy Sutter, corporate SVP and chief people officer of VMWare and Eric Berridge, BlueWolf co-founder and principal. Designed to help close the gender gap in technology, InsideSales.com will challenge competing tech companies to initiate their own Women in Computer Science scholarships as well.

This scholarship will help further the work of InsideSales.com's Do Good Foundation, which donates 1 percent of employee time, 1 percent of company revenue and 1 percent of products to local causes. The Do Good Foundation's activities include volunteering with educational outreach programs such as Code.org, a non-profit devoted to escalating the number of computer science classes in schools and encouraging young women and students of color to study STEM.

Winners will be chosen based on essay submissions and assessment of their academic records. In addition to full tuition for one year, students selected for the scholarships will be offered a paid internship at InsideSales.com during summer 2016. These internships will include the opportunity to develop and execute a coding camp in Summer 2016 for young women ages 9-14, which will focus on gaining confidence and improving leadership skills, while investing in the next generation of female computer scientists.

"We are fortunate to have some of the most talented computer scientists in the world at our company and we want to give back to the academic community, specifically to women, to drive interest in pursuing data science as a career path," said Lindsey Armstrong, SVP of International Strategy at InsideSales.com. "Supporting students who are pursuing computer science degrees is critical to the continued growth of the technology industry and our region as a whole."

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in a computer science program and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. For select schools including BYU, applicants must be involved in a related club. The scholarships will help educate and prepare graduates for the growing number of computer science-related jobs that are needed in Utah, as well as give back to communities along the Wasatch Front.
