INSIGHT Wins 2010 Green Supply Chain Award for 2nd Consecutive Year

SAILS Models Energy Consumption, Impact of CO2 Footprint, & By-Products

MANASSAS, VA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2010) - INSIGHT, Inc., a top international provider of supply chain planning solutions for the world's foremost companies, today announced winning the 2010 Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive (S&DCE) magazine. This is INSIGHT's second consecutive win of this prestigious award that honors companies that are making green or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy.

"INSIGHT helps green initiatives within the supply chain by developing a strategic supply chain design, then looking at sourcing locally, optimizing supply chain and transportation networks, and accounting for by-products," said Jeff Karrenbauer, president of INSIGHT, Inc. "Clients re-evaluate their supply chains and design new supply chain networks that include minimal energy usage, alternative fuels and sources, and the length of the supply chain, which comes into question when considering outsourcing."

INSIGHT is helping companies re-evaluate their supply chain networks -- from purchasing, planning, and managing the use of materials to shipping and distributing final products -- with an emphasis on environmental performance. Companies can integrate sustainability into their decision-making processes and what-if analysis to reduce the environmental impact on the supply chain.

SAILS helps companies to include green initiatives within their supply chains by creating strategies for sourcing, energy usage, carbon emissions, by-products, and transportation. Optimizing transportation networks so that products travel the shortest distances between plants and warehouses, and between the warehouse and customers, helps clients achieve significant reductions in logistics-related costs by ensuring that they have a network in place that eliminates unnecessary transportation and uses the optimal mode of transportation for all shipping.

Optimal transportation networks identify opportunities to consolidate less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments into truckload shipments, and to convert air shipments to more efficient ground shipments where feasible. Companies can consider all forms of low-cost and green transportation options from pipeline, ship, barge, rail, truck, and air, including mixed modes.

The 2010 Green Supply Chain awards are awarded to providers of supply chain solutions and services that are assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals in the areas of Sourcing/Procurement, Fulfillment/Logistics, Operations, Product Lifecycle Management, and other areas of the supply chain. Submissions for the 2010 Green Supply Chain Awards were judged based on the clarity and content of the goals and strategy (30 percent), the extent of the steps being taken (30 percent), the impact of the results to date and projected results (30 percent), and the form and presentation of the information submitted (10 percent).

The full listing of the 2010 Green Supply Chain Awards recipients will be featured in the November/December 2010 issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine and online at
