Inspired by Independent Artists' Track, Sugar Crisp Cereal Seeks Talented Musicians

Sugar Crisp Creates 'The First 15' Music Bursary Contest for Emerging Artists

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 22, 2011) - The cereal maker behind Sugar Crisp is offering a sweet deal for up-and-coming artists looking for their first fifteen minutes of fame. In just under three weeks, Sugar Crisp will select the winner of The First 15 Facebook contest, where one deserving music artist will win free studio time, the chance to work with a producer and $5000 in cash. Entries are accepted until December 9, 2011.

When producer Adam Damelin and hip-hop artist ISH (Ish Morris) shared their independent track "Can't Get Enough", which samples the popular 1960s Sugar Bear jingle, "Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp", they caught the interest of the folks at Post Foods Canada. Impressed by their talent Post Foods Canada committed to supporting the artists and helping them get noticed. Inspired by their creativity and spirit, Post Foods created an opportunity for other emerging artists to make their first break and The First 15 Facebook contest concept was hatched.

"Sugar Crisp is proud to help young adults with musical talent realize their dreams," says Jennifer Dumoulin, Post Foods Canada. "Canada has a lot of talented artists and we want to help find them, share their musical talent and foster their dreams."

How it works

Canadians can enter by uploading their song by December 9, 2011. Music artists can go to facebook.com/thefirst15 to upload their track and share their bio to win. The songs will be shared on Facebook and friends, family and music enthusiasts are asked to vote on their favourite entries.

The top 10 finalists will be selected by a combination of the most votes, as well as an assessment of creativity and originality. The winner will be chosen by a judging panel that includes The First 15 artist ISH, a music producer from Girth Music, a representative from one of Canada's top record labels and a Post Foods Canada ambassador. The judges will evaluate entries on their overall song quality, lyrics and performance.

Prize details:

The winning prize includes free recording studio time courtesy of GIRTH Music in Toronto as well as award-winning producer support and a $5000 cash prize. Hopefuls are invited to go to facebook.com/thefirst15 to upload their track. Incorporating the Sugar Bear jingle is permitted but not required.

ISH's single "Can't Get Enough" can be downloaded free with an access code which is being distributed via download cards at university and college campuses across Canada or by requesting an access code on facebook.com/thefirst15.
