Instacart Launches Service With Target in San Francisco Today

Partnership Originally Piloted in Minneapolis in September; San Francisco Is the First Expansion City

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - November 03, 2015) - Instacart (www.Instacart.com), the fast-growing retail delivery service whose personal shoppers hand pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, announced today that Target is expanding its Instacart service to San Francisco after a successful pilot in Minneapolis. Starting today, customers in the San Francisco Bay Area can order fresh food, non-perishable food items, health and beauty products, pet and household supplies, and select baby items from Target and have them delivered straight to their doorstep in as little as one hour.

"We've received great feedback from our launch in September, so we're pleased to expand this offering to our guests in San Francisco," said Jason Goldberger, President of Target.com and Mobile. "Our goal is to make grocery shopping easier and more convenient, so that our guests can shop Target wherever, whenever and however they want."

In addition to Target, customers throughout the Bay Area can also order from Whole Foods Market, Costco (no membership needed), Petco, Smart & Final, Bi-Rite Market, Safeway, Rainbow Grocery, Falletti Foods, Mollie Stone's, and Andronico's.

"Demand for Target exceeded our expectations in Minneapolis, and we are very excited to expand our partnership to the Bay Area, our biggest market," said Nilam Ganenthiran, Vice President of Business Development & Strategy for Instacart. "Our model gives all types of retailers the ability to offer the convenience of delivery without the logistical hassles or capital expenditures, and we are glad to be providing even more of our customers the opportunity to shop at Target through Instacart."

The initial delivery area includes zip codes throughout San Francisco, the East Bay, the South Bay, the Northern Peninsula, and the Southern Peninsula.

Originally launched in San Francisco, and since expanded into many other cities, Instacart has fundamentally changed the traditional grocery delivery space by connecting customers with personal shoppers who shop for and deliver grocery orders in as little as one hour. This eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as inventory, warehouses and trucks. In January 2015, Forbes named Instacart "America's Most Promising Company."

How Instacart works: Customers go online to www.Instacart.com or open the Instacart mobile app on their iPhone or Android device, select their city/store, add items to a virtual cart, and then choose a delivery window (within one hour, within two hours, or up to seven days in advance) and check out. An Instacart Personal Shopper accepts the order on his/her smartphone, uses the Instacart Shopper app to guide them through shopping, and then delivers the order to the customer in the designated delivery timeframe.

New customers can open an account at www.Instacart.com. The first delivery is free and future orders cost just $3.99 for two-hour delivery or $5.99 for one-hour delivery for orders over $35. The minimum order size is just $10. Instacart also offers Instacart Express -- an annual membership that eliminates delivery fees for all orders of $35 or more. The cost is just $99 per year.
