InstaEDU Expands Offerings to Help Students Build Ongoing Academic Relationships

New Features Include Ability to Pick a Specific Tutor and Schedule Future Lessons

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 28, 2012) - InstaEDU, the online service that makes one-on-one academic instruction more accessible, today announced several major additions to its online product offerings, giving students anywhere the ability to build meaningful academic relationships with great tutors. The company, which has funding from The Social+Capital Partnership, launched in public beta in May 2012. InstaEDU connects students with available experts from top colleges at a fraction of the price of traditional private tutoring.

InstaEDU's marquee service is on-demand study help, where students can connect with subject experts the moment a question arises. The new features InstaEDU launched today build off of its early success connecting students with tutors from leading institutions by giving students more -- and more cost effective -- ways to work with academic experts. These features include:

  • The ability to find tutors and schedule lessons in advance
  • A way for parents to set up affordable online tutoring for their children
  • Online SAT Prep as a separate offering, making it convenient and affordable for high school students to take a personalized prep course from an experienced SAT instructor
  • Even greater savings for students who use InstaEDU on a regular basis

"We take a lot of pride in being able to help students the moment they run into challenges, but all research shows that building student/teacher relationships is also incredibly important," said Alison Johnston, CEO and cofounder of InstaEDU. "After having an on-demand lesson with one of our experts, a lot of students asked us for a way to continue working together, so we're excited to make that ongoing academic relationship possible."

As part of this new set of features, students can now browse tutor profiles to find an ideal fit. For the first time, students anywhere can set up affordable one-on-one lessons with astrophysicists, Olympic athletes and even dolphin-trainers-turned-doctors.

If a student has found a favorite tutor they'd like to work with again, InstaEDU now offers increased savings over its a la carte rate of 50¢/minute ($30/hour). For students who'd like regular academic support, InstaEDU's private tutoring can cost as little as $22/hour.

"Every student learns differently and at their own pace, so personal attention is a critical component of academic success," said Alison. "As class sizes grow and courses move online, our goal is to allow any student to receive one-on-one academic support whenever and wherever they need it. This is another step in that direction."
