InstyMeds Completes Surescripts® Certification

Enhances Patient Care by Simplifying the Prescription Medication Routing Process

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - InstyMeds Corporation, the market leader in automated physician dispensing systems, announced today that it has completed certification with Surescripts. The certification allows health care facilities that have the InstyMeds system to receive medication orders via the Surescripts network to assist in medication dispensing for providers.

South Lake Pediatrics in Minnetonka, MN is the first medical facility to take advantage of the InstyMeds certification and have the option to select their InstyMeds system. "The ability to select a pharmacy or InstyMeds without switching applications is a great way to offer patients the convenience of on-site medication services without it providing any extra steps for our providers," states Dr. Lorene Freehill, M.D., of South Lake Pediatrics.

How it works. After examining the patient and determining the need for medications, the medical provider enters the medication order through their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system or e-prescribing software and the medication order is routed through the Surescripts network. If the patient chooses to get their medication dispensed on-site through InstyMeds, the medical provider counsels the patient, and then selects their site's InstyMeds dispenser from the Surescripts list. Choosing InstyMeds eliminates a trip to the pharmacy for the patient and allows them to get their medication at the point of care. The fully automated InstyMeds system collects payment, performs a triple bar code safety check, and dispenses medications in about 90 seconds.

"Routing orders through Surescripts to the facility's InstyMeds system streamlines the process of physician dispensing and eliminates any need for double entry by the provider. Healthcare practices that use InstyMeds with the Surescripts' network can improve their meaningful use measurements, reduce costs, enhance patient safety, improve patient compliance and improve patient satisfaction (VBP) scores," said Brad Schraut, CEO of InstyMeds. "Patient care is enhanced when physicians dispense medications for acute conditions at the point of care."
