IntegenX® Announces Advancements in Forensic DNA Technology to Help Solve Crimes Faster

Results From Two Pivotal Studies Demonstrate Reliable DNA Profiles for Human Identification in Less Than Two Hours on the RapidHIT® System

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2014) - IntegenX Inc., the market leader in Rapid Human DNA identification technology, announced today the publication of two studies in the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics. The first study evaluated the suitability of the RapidHIT System for analysis of buccal samples, such as those typically collected in arrestee testing. In this study, the RapidHIT demonstrated 100% concordance with known DNA profiles in forensic laboratories.

The second study completes the Developmental Validation of the National DNA Index System (NDIS) approved 24 loci GlobalFiler® Express kit on the RapidHIT System. The Developmental Validation of the GlobalFiler Express kit on the RapidHIT System was performed in accordance with guidelines outlined by the Scientific Working Group for DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM). The completion of Developmental Validation enables a user in an accredited DNA laboratory, after Internal Validation and in accordance with the FBI QAS guidelines, to upload reference profiles from the RapidHIT System into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

"The RapidHIT System performed as well as our traditional capillary electrophoresis based method in producing useable profile information on a first pass basis," said Bruce Budowle, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Institute of Applied Genetics at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). "The ease of use and technical performance of the system against widely accepted evaluation criteria supports that the RapidHIT System can be considered a reliable alternative to conventional laboratory based STR methods for the types of samples we tested."

"Our Sheriff's Department Crime Lab completed its own validation of the RapidHIT in July of this year, and we have already seen the benefit that rapid DNA results can bring to our investigations," commented Richland County, South Carolina Sheriff Leon Lott. "We are very pleased to see that the broader scientific community has reviewed and accepted the RapidHIT System for publication."

"The completion of Developmental Validation of the NDIS-approved GlobalFiler Express kit on the RapidHIT is a significant technical and operational milestone," said Stevan Jovanovich, PhD, Founder and Chief Technology Officer at IntegenX. "The RapidHIT System is being widely adopted around the world, and the Developmental Validation of the GlobalFiler Express kit has made CODIS upload from a Rapid DNA platform a reality."

"The RapidHIT is currently in operation by forensic labs and in the law enforcement setting globally, and we continue to add new users on a regular basis," commented Robert Schueren, President and Chief Executive Officer of IntegenX. "RapidHIT is the only rapid DNA system that provides the flexibility to analyze a wide variety of samples from both reference and unknown sources using three widely accepted STR chemistries."

The IntegenX RapidHIT System fully automates and integrates all steps necessary to generate a DNA profile in less than two hours. With less than five minutes of hands-on time, an operator can generate up to seven complete DNA profiles. RapidHIT System DNA profiles are completely compatible with standard databases that contain previously generated profiles from reference and crime scene sources. The ease of use and rapid turnaround time of the RapidHIT for DNA human identification will have a high impact toward ensuring the safety of our communities.
