Integran Technologies USA Awarded Contract by US Department of Transportation

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 18, 2008) - Integran Technologies USA Inc., a leading company in the area of metallurgical nano-technologies, has announced today that it has been awarded a Phase I SBIR contract by the US Department of Transportation (Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, Cambridge, MA) to develop a gas pipeline repair process which utilizes nanocrystalline metals to fill and structurally-reinforce areas of pipeline which have been degraded by stress corrosion cracking.

"Stress corrosion cracking is a major concern with pipeline reliability, particularly with the trend towards higher operating pressures. The proposed in-situ repair technology can offset disruptive and costly pipeline replacement initiatives" said Dr. Virgil Provenzano, a Senior Scientist with Integran Technologies, USA.

The US DoT SBIR Program (Small Business Innovation Research) provides early-stage research & development funding directly to small US-based technology companies.
