Integrated Circuit Makers Seek to Broaden Portfolios

The Bedford Report Provides Analyst Research on Broadcom & RF Micro Devices

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - December 9, 2010) - In recent months the Technology Sector has become a hotbed of Merger and Acquisition activity. As companies get larger and experience diminishing returns in their core business, they are showing their willingness to utilize their large resource pools to acquire smaller companies in a race to diversify themselves. Given the limited opportunities for meaningful acquisitions, the companies in stronger financial positions, and the willingness to act, stand to gain the most from such activities. The Bedford Report examines the outlook for companies in the Semiconductor - Integrated Circuits Industry and provides research reports on Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM) and RF Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: RFMD). Access to the full company reports can be found at:

Broadcom has been busy this year broadening its technology portfolio. Last month we learned that the company will acquire privately-held Gigle Networks Inc. for $75 million. Broadcom says the acquisition will enable it to design more highly integrated SoCs, which allow whole-home network coverage in a wide variety of global deployment scenarios.

Broadcom also announced last month it had completed its $316 million cash acquisition of Beceem Communications. Beceem makes chip solutions for next-generation wireless phone networks. Broadcom said that the acquisition would have no effect on earnings in 2011.
