Integrated Network Analyzer's New "Free String Match" Simplifies Securing the Network From Internal Threats

The Only Portable Integrated Analyzer With Enterprise-Wide Vision Adds New Capabilities for Supporting Major IT Initiatives

EVERETT, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 18, 2007 -- Fluke Networks announces several new capabilities for its market-leading OptiView Integrated Network Analyzer. With these added functions the OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer becomes the only portable integrated analyzer with enterprise-wide vision for managing infrastructure changes, deploying new applications and technologies, solving network and application performance issues and securing the network from internal threats.

Enterprise-wide vision supporting major IT initiatives

OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer has been reengineered to help network managers and engineers implement their current IT projects as well as perform rapid root-cause troubleshooting analysis. This results in lower IT costs, reduced risk of deploying new network services and infrastructure, increased data security and regulatory compliance and improved internal user satisfaction.

The new OptiView Series III supports major IT Initiatives through several capabilities. In addition to Free String Match filters and triggers, OptiView Series III now offers 802.1x authentication, gigabit line rate traffic generation and Internetwork Throughput testing, encapsulation independent protocol filtering, application level traffic analysis and application layer bounce charts for application performance visualization.

Free String Match detects internal security violations and solves tough intermittent performance problems

OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer can identify and match any set of words or phrases in network traffic, regardless of the position in the packet, for full line rate filtering on gigabit links. This allows detection and capture of traffic containing certain words or phrases in non-encrypted emails, web pages, file transfers or documents to identify illicit use of the network.

"The combination of Free String Match and trigger is a great tool to solve an issue I run into frequently. Now I can enter the error message the terminal receives from the server, trigger on it and capture the traffic around the event -- before and after," said Mike Pennacchi, Executive Network Analyst, Network Protocol Specialists.

Free String Match can also identify and track applications that are not allowed on the network, such as streaming media that may consume valuable bandwidth, or P2P applications that may pose a security risk.

Intermittent performance problems can also be diagnosed faster with Free String Match. Intermittents which can take days or even weeks to solve can now be fixed in a day or less. OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer can capture traffic around any application error message, saving time and frustration when pinpointing elusive intermittent problems.

Manage infrastructure changes and new application deployments on Gigabit links

New to the OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer is real-time application analysis on Gigabit links. Users can determine the specific endpoints (server, host) using each application, and perform layer 3 or layer 2 trace routes to identify the switch or router interface to which the endpoint is connected for each application. This saves time and takes the pain out of deploying new applications on higher-speed links.

Added network visibility through topic-specific options

The OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer offers unparalleled insight into the network. For increased vision into specific facets of the network, a number of options are available, including:

-- Removable hard drive for increased security
-- Expert Analysis Option to aid in packet decode
-- VoIP Analysis Option to grade voice quality and measure quality of
-- 802.11 a/b/g Wireless Option, allowing OptiView Series III to analyze
both the wireless and wired portions of the network
-- InterpretAir WLAN Wireless Site Survey software and AnalyzeAir
Spectrum Analyzer, expanding OptiView Series III INA's range across the
    entire wireless lifecycle
-- Throughput Option, for maximizing the value of costly WAN links
-- OptiView™ Fiber Inspector Option, for non-invasive, user-safe video
    inspection of fiber links
