The Port Angeles Food Bank was the real winner when a friendly competition among the 121 employees at Interfor's Port Angeles Sawmill led to a donation of 1,100 food items.

"The mill is an important part of Port Angeles, and this competition was a great way to engage our employees and support our community at the same time," Production Manager Bill Slagle said today. "I'm proud of everyone for their fantastic efforts."

"We really appreciate this generous donation from our friends at the Interfor Mill," said Julie Woodin-Stockert, Operations Manager of the Port Angeles Food Bank. "It helps us meet the needs of local families, and shows people facing tough times how much their community cares about them."

The 33 people in the mill's maintenance department contributed 36 percent of the items to win the competition. Slagle said that going forward the food drive competition - which ran from Oct. 21 to Nov. 15 - will be an annual event.
