Intergraph(R) Executive Patrick Holcomb Interview in AECCafe October 11th Edition Discusses Plans for CADWorx(R) Plant Design Suite and Integration With SmartPlant(R)

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - October 17, 2010) -  Intergraph executive Patrick Holcomb spoke with AECCafé Managing Editor Susan Smith recently about the company's commitment to the CADWorx Plant Design Suite. In the interview published in the October 11th edition, Holcomb discusses how CADWorx will see increased investment in development plus integration with the SmartPlant® Enterprise environment. CADWorx is now part of the Intergraph portfolio after its January acquisition of COADE. The interview with AECCafé followed his keynote at CADWorx University, the annual conference held September 27-29 in Houston, Texas, the first year this conference was held under the Intergraph umbrella.

"We had a question mark in the audience starting the event, and by the end of it, that was no longer an issue," said Holcomb, executive vice president, Business Development, Intergraph Process Power & Marine, describing in the article the question about Intergraph's long-term commitment to CADWorx. He describes how this issue disappeared after explaining how Intergraph recognized that CADWorx has successfully coexisted at many Intergraph accounts and is being used as a complementary 3D plant design solution for work groups whose needs fall outside the mega-project sector where Intergraph is dominant.

The article explains how Intergraph saw that CADWorx was extremely popular with users because it was easy to learn and use, with users becoming productive within just a matter of days when compared to complex mega-project-type solutions. The article also describes how the audience liked the presentation of the planned integration between SmartPlant 3D and CADWorx, which demonstrated how smaller subcontractors doing project work as part of a larger installation will be able to have their CADWorx models intelligently referenced inside of SmartPlant 3D mega-projects.

According to the article, AutoCAD is used by 89% of those involved in plant and process design. As Susan Smith, managing editor at AECCafé said in the article, it was no surprise when Intergraph acquired COADE in January of this year as Intergraph was lacking in its portfolio an entry point for users to take the next step into plant design software.
