Intermedia to Offer Full Hosted Exchange Support for New Windows Phone 7

Bringing Business Email to the Newest Smartphone for SMBs

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) - Intermedia, the world's largest Microsoft Exchange hosting provider, today announced that its hosted Exchange service, including Exchange 2010, will be available on the new Windows Phone 7 the day it is available to customers. Using Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Intermedia will configure the phones to wirelessly send and receive Exchange email, calendar invitations, contacts and more. Windows Phone 7 is being heralded as using an elegant operating system that is different from the current trend of app-focused smartphones.

Intermedia supports business email and collaboration on a full range of smartphones, including BlackBerry devices, the Apple iPhone, Android devices such as the Motorola Droid and Google's Nexus One, and popular smartphones such as Palm Treo, Motorola Q, T-Mobile Dash and the Samsung Blackjack.

As more business people rely on smartphones to access Exchange, demand for Intermedia's mobility services has increased. Companies no longer have to standardize on a single smartphone to minimize operational expenses and complexity. Each user can select the smartphone right for them. The company recently reported that 50 percent of the employees at the businesses they support use smartphones to access their email. Ninety-five percent of the businesses have at least one user with a smartphone. Other interesting smartphone stats from Intermedia's small and medium-sized customer-base include:

  • iPhone users send more outgoing messages than BlackBerry or Android users, making them the "most chatty."
  • Android users receive more overall messages than BlackBerry or iPhone users, making them the "most popular."
  • Most users, 75 percent, choose ActiveSync based devices including the iPhone and Android.

Note: Statistics were determined by measuring Intermedia's overall network traffic. No specific user or account action/email was analyzed.

"Small and mid-size business owners want and need to stay connected," says Jonathan McCormick, COO, Intermedia. "Providing full support for new smartphone market entries ensures our customers have full availability to use the smartphone of their choice."
