International Disease Management Alliance [IDMA] Formed to Address the Increasing Global Burden of Chronic Disease

FLEMINGTON, NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 3, 2005 -- Today, Warren E. Todd announced the launch of the International Disease Management Alliance [IDMA]. The new association was founded to promote the rapid expansion of disease management [DM] around the world. IDMA brings together healthcare leaders from more than 30 countries to share their DM experience/research and to serve as a catalyst to improve the management of patients suffering from chronic disease.

Following six successful years of leadership at the Disease Management Association of America [DMAA], Mr. Todd has redirected his advocacy efforts to supporting international organizations and governments seeking to incorporate the growing body of knowledge on disease management into their population and care management strategies.

Professor Per-Gunnar Svensson, Director-General of the International Hospital Federation will serve as IDMA Chairman, overseeing the Board of Advisors that includes healthcare leaders from around the world. "Our aging and overweight populations have created a crisis in healthcare systems around the world," stated Professor Svensson. "The increasing demand for costly healthcare services conflicts with decreasing budgets. The IDMA represents an important vehicle to aggressively discover and operationalize real solutions to these major problems."

"Health system complexities from Europe to Asia are unique, but one constant is the potential of care coordination and disease management to increase quality and ease rising cost trends of the globally aging population," says Jonathan Lord, MD, SVP and Chief Innovation Officer at Humana Inc. "Uncovering the grail to consumer empowerment for better self management and sustained behavior change will be the challenge for each government and enterprise that joins the new alliance." Dr. Lord, a former COO of the American Hospital Association and Board President of the Disease Management Association of America, will join Professor Svensson as Chairman-elect of IDMA to provide leadership and guidance to the newly founded organization.

The IDMA will officially launch in June 2005 with an inaugural email newsletter covering the latest disease management events and research from around the world. For more information please visit www.DMAlliance.org.

The IDMA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring together the pioneers in disease management from around the world to ensure that different models of disease management are nurtured and information shared. See www.DMAlliance.org for more information on IDMA.
