International Jury Selects Eight Finalists in 2006 Axalto SIMagine Contest

AMSTERDAM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 10, 2006 -- Co-sponsored by Samsung Electronics and Sun Microsystems, the competition aims to stimulate innovative mobile applications and services using Java Card ™ technology

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, February 10, 2006 - An international jury has selected the eight finalists from more than 300 entries in the 2006 Axalto SIMagine ™ worldwide developer contest. Over the past six years, the Axalto SIMagine challenge, which aims to discover and promote new ideas for creative and powerful mobile services, has become the event of reference in the mobile value-added services world.

The exceptional prizes -- worth up to 60 000 euro plus the valuable development resources to take the winning ideas to commercialization -- attract entries from mobile service specialists, application developers, students and amateurs from all over the world. Using Java Card ™ technology for SIM cards, which is advocated by Axalto, service providers can take advantage of its popular multi-application capability to quickly and continually deliver more value-added services, create new revenue opportunities, increase their subscribers' loyalty and grow their customer base.

The tough task of picking the winners from the extremely varied and creative group goes to an international jury drawn from major players in the mobile telecommunications world, including leading operators such as Maxis, Telcel, Telefonica Moviles and TIM, key Java ™ technology figures and standards setters.

"Through this contest, Axalto is proud to help bring forward-thinking ideas and intuitive insights into market, making creative wireless services available for subscribers, " stated Olivier Piou, chief executive officer of Axalto. "With nearly twice as many entries as last year, the Axalto SIMagine contest continues to catalyze smart ideas from all over the world, leveraging SIM capabilities while meeting operators and subscribers demand."
