International Markets Impacting Jobs in BC: CKNW Series 'Putting BC to Work' Investigates How Growth Abroad Effects Jobs at Home

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 21, 2014) - International markets and their impact on jobs in BC will take the spotlight April 21-25, 2014 on Vancouver-based Corus Entertainment station, CKNW News Talk AM 980's groundbreaking series, 'Putting BC to Work'. The weeklong focus will examine relationships between BC and some of the province's premier trading partners to shed light on the impact of global economies on the job market and business environment at home. To help provide direct access and insight on the topic, renown radio personality and host, Bill Good will be traveling and broadcasting from key Asian markets throughout the week. 'Putting BC to Work' will expose the potential for business success within key international markets and the resulting growth of jobs in BC.

"Many BC-based businesses understand that our economy is a part of a heavily linked global network, but their ability to see direct market potential beyond the borders of BC or Canada, can sometimes be limited," states Ian Koenigsfest, Brand Director AM Programming at Corus Radio Vancouver. "Key markets such as China, India, USA and Latin America hold tremendous potential for business and job growth in BC and our goal is to unlock or expose ways to take advantage of this."

The 'Putting BC to Work' focus on international markets will cover topics related to:

  • The link between economic growth abroad and the BC job market
  • Specific business in key markets such as China, India, USA and Latin America
  • Resources for BC businesses looking to do business abroad
  • Success stories from BC businesses that do a large percentage of business abroad

To highlight and further examine the critical economic connections between BC and China specifically, CKNW host Bill Good will travel to and report from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong during the week. His coverage will include topics such as a look at BC companies enjoying success in China, the risks and rewards of doing business in China, the BC connection to the mobile gaming industry in Asia, how BC lumber is being used in China, the demand for BC products such as wine and cherries in Asia and the war against pollution in China and how BC clean energy innovation may offer a solution.

The 'Putting BC to Work' series is set to develop a dialogue around the employment landscape in our province - focusing both on the current state of affairs, as well as the economic outlook for years to come. 'Putting BC to Work' will run on air March 31 - April 27, 2014 and provide British Columbians and the business community with an unprecedented opportunity to access and engage in conversation about the provincial job market.
