Intersil Introduces Industry's Smallest S-Video Drivers to Increase Battery Life and Remove Glitches in Portable Video Applications

MILPITAS, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 27, 2007 -- Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL) today introduced 9MHz low-pass reconstruction filters housed in tiny, ultra-slim µTQFN or chipscale packages, that remove quantization noise and switching glitches created by video DACs on the analog output signal. These devices have integrated gain-of-two buffers and a summer that recombines the S-video signal to provide a composite video output for those applications where the DAC does not provide a composite video out. Coupled with their ultra-small packages and extremely low current consumption, the ISL59114/16 are ideal for portable applications and next-generation video appliances.

The ISL59114/16's tiny 0.5µA power-down current increases the application's battery life when the amplifier is not in use, in addition to having an extremely low quiescent current during video operation. These parts are targeted at low supply rail applications, and so operate from a single 2.5V to 3.6V supply, making them appropriate for handheld battery voltage ranges. Unlike competitive devices, the ISL59114/16 are offered in ultra-slim µTQFN or chipscale packages that are perfect for thin, handheld applications or space-constrained boards.

The ISL59114/16's gain-of-two buffers provide enough output drive current and gain to compensate for double-terminated video loads. The device has an output slew rate of 40V/µs, and provides a full rail-to-rail output level.

Target applications for the ISL59114/16 include video amplifiers, portable video players, MP3 players, cable and satellite set-top boxes, video handsets, handheld products, personal video recorders, and HDTVs.

About Intersil's Video Products

From high-performance video amplifiers to differential line equalizers, Intersil's portfolio of video products can address any portion of the analog signal chain. The number and variety of video products on the market continues to grow. With the expansion of HDTV and high-resolution RGB (red, green, blue) signals, the most common point-to-point connection for a video signal is analog. Intersil's video ICs provide many solutions for moving these signals around. Whether it is transmitting RGB down CAT-5 or switching 32 security video feeds, Intersil has a solution. Also, Intersil's ISL5944x family extends the available bandwidth of RGB multiplexers on the market from 500 MHz up to 1GHz -- the first time this barrier has been broken. Intersil continues to deliver best-in-class video solutions for its customers, addressing every piece of the signal chain.
