inthinc Honors Distracted Driving Awareness Month With Safe Driving Pledge

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwired - Apr 18, 2013) - inthinc Technology Solutions Inc., a global provider of telematics, fleet management and driver safety solutions, joins the National Safety Council in recognizing April as distracted driving awareness month. To raise awareness of the dangers of driving while distracted, and to promote safer highways, inthinc encourages both professional and individual drivers to sign a distracted driving pledge, promising to drive distraction-free, including driving while using cellular or mobile devices, eating or drinking, or driving while drowsy.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving accounts for one-third of all accidents on the road today. In 2011, 3,331 people were killed and 387,000 more were injured in incidents involving a distracted driver.

Actions that may distract a driver include:

  • Texting, or any other use of a mobile device
  • Eating or drinking
  • Application of makeup, or other grooming procedures
  • Reading
  • Driving drowsy
  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Adjusting the radio, CD player, or MP3 player

"Based on the hundreds of millions of driving miles our company measures each year, we understand how serious of a threat distracted driving is to our community and country," said Todd Follmer, inthinc CEO. "We want our families, employers, customers and friends to be examples to other drivers by committing to drive without distraction."

To help other businesses and groups kick-off their own distraction-free campaigns, inthinc is now offering a free "Distracted Driving Pledge" template. inthinc encourages organizations to use the template to draft their own pledge and help raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving.
