Intrinsyc Device Development Experts to Speak at ARM Techcon3

Intrinsyc to deliver three technical papers on Connectivity, Convergence and Power Management

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2009) - Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX:ICS), a leading provider of software solutions for mobile and embedded devices, today announced three technical sessions at the ARM Techcon3 (October 21-23, 2009, Santa Clara Convention Center). Attendees will have the opportunity to learn technical tips and techniques from the Intrinsyc device development experts. Topics include power management, device functionality convergence, connectivity, and best practices in systems integration.

Sunny Cheng, Senior System Architect, will present "The Seven Keys of Converged Device Development," in the Internet Everywhere, System Integration section. The session will explore the technology selection and design considerations when bringing a highly converged device to market. Connected device applications, power management and platform requirements will be reviewed and discussed.

Both technical and business attendees will come away from Mr. Cheng's session with a better understanding of the complete device development process, from specification to certification. Attendees will learn how to evaluate and choose the processors, reference designs, and operating systems (OS). Other topics include ARM IEM smart power management, telephony integration, testing and certification, remote updates, UI trends, and differentiation.

Denis Londry, Director of Wireless Solutions, will present "Understanding Telephony for Converged Devices," in the Internet Everywhere, Wireless Communications section. Mr. Londry will discuss how smartphone modem control is accomplished in the majority OS environments using examples such as Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Google Android. He will delve into common problems that affect the design, implementation, and integration of this subsystem, including handling hardware abstraction for phone applications while dealing with radio fidelities and assuring adequate data throughput.

Mr. Londry will also address the problems presented by having multiple telephony aware applications interacting on a resource constrained system. Other topics include application suites, data throughput requirements, control mechanisms, inter-processor bus issues. and certification test requirements.

Ken Tough, Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, will present a technical paper on "Optimizing Power Management" in the Convergence section. The tutorial provides an introduction to the design and structure of Windows Embedded CE power management. The critical Windows Embedded API and advanced techniques for optimizing Days-of-Use and Standby Time will also be presented.

Other topics covered by Mr. Tough will include CPU power states; system power states; device power states; design power budget; optimizing standby time; Windows Power Manager Architecture, API, and tasks; system-device power states map; device self management (e.g., USB, OTG, and Wi-Fi); standby/resume model; always-on model; impact of variable-tick clock; power savings through dynamic voltage and frequency predictive scaling; importance of careful power management IC selection; and application power management considerations.
