SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 4, 2014) - Paofit today announced a new, mobile fitness app that makes indoor running more engaging, social and fun. The app displays real time, interactive images of a runner and their friends running together through beautiful HD video locations such as California's Sequoia National Forest, the Tuscan countryside or villages of Bali. Runners using the Paofit app can be on a treadmill in San Francisco and run together with others online anywhere -- London, Beijing, Sydney or Timbuktu.
"We're excited to bring the indoor fitness world the first truly social, HD video fitness app," said Marc Hardy, CEO of Paofit. "Besides offering runners cool locations, for the first time ever, runners can see and run with their friends from around the world in real time."
Interactive Social Running via New "Mixed Reality" Technology
Paofit's innovative "mixed reality" technology tracks and displays in real time, each runner's avatar running inside the HD videos. The videos sync to the runner's speed as well as accurately show the positions of others running nearby. If a runner speeds up, their avatar pulls ahead.
Paofit tracks runners' speeds through their mobile devices' built-in accelerometer or, if available, the very accurate PaofitTrack treadmill sensor, or directly from the treadmill if a runner is using a Life Fitness machine equipped with a Discover or Track+ Console.
The video and avatars can be watched either on the mobile device's screen placed on the treadmill console or on a larger screen if the device is connected via HDMI cable or Apple TV.
A Variety of Great Runs - Paofit offers a range of running video locations such as Joshua Tree National Park in California, Killarney National Park in Ireland and the countryside in Tuscany, Italy.
Shared Runs - When people finish a run, they can save it and share with others. Users can see avatars of previous runs, whether their own, their friends or others. These offer a great way for runners to pace themselves, train for events, follow a program from their personal trainer, build on previous performances or post runs on Facebook for friendly fitness challenges.
Custom Running Events - People can set up their own digital running events and invite a group of friends or other runners to join.
Upcoming features - iPhone and Android versions, the ability to chat with others and additional indoor cardio activities such as biking.
